Contemporary History

Profound changes

In Moos, there were far-reaching changes during the 20th century. Formative events in the region, history and stories are presented. The remote mountain village became a border town as a result of the First World War. Two barracks were erected, the construction of the Timmelsjoch military road brought over a thousand workers into the area. The bunker complex was built and the important connection to the Ötztal Valley was broken. Venturous young men attempted to alleviate the misery of the period between the two World wars by illegal trading across the border.

Particular emphasis is placed on the contemporary history of the Hinterpasseier.
