The Walkway

The Walkway

The Walkway (Steg in German) is located at the toll station in Hochgurgl on the North Tyrolean side. This is the fifth and last station of the museum facilities along the mountain pass. Here, you can find information on the landscape and settlement history in the high-Alpine area of Hochgurgl/Obergurgl. In the exhibition room, among other things, you can learn everything about the natural monument “Obergurgler Zirbenwald” (Obergurgl stone pine forest) and the scientifically proven effect of the arolla pine on people.

Just like the physicist Auguste Piccard who was forced to make an emergency landing with his stratospheric hot air balloon at the Gurgler glacier in May 1931, you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view over the Ötztal mountains with numerous 3000-metre summits.
