Glacier mills in Platt

The glacier mills which are unique in South Tyrol, bear witness to the immense geological effect of the prehistoric glacial streams. At the forest slope near Platt/Plata (ital.), there are a dozen of these cylindrical holes sunken into the rock.
A 1.4 m wide and nearly 3.6 m deep glacier mill, ground out by the glacier water in a glacier whirl by rotating circling of moving stones in the local rock.

From Platt into the direction of Breiteben up to a chapel left at the roadside. From here, the signposted trail leads towards the left to the destination
